you want the best

you reach for the sky

that's not who I am 

I'm a simple guy

 

keeping up with the jones

is not my style

I gave you an inch

you took a mile

 

I'm kind and devoted

I work hard I'm tough

but you get what you want

it's never enough

 

if that's your dream

the big house on the hill

better find someone else

I work at the mill

 

I'm beat I'm tired

the days are too long

I limped home to see you

your things were gone

 

I accepted my life

maybe that was my flaw

you drove on empty

but you got what you saw

 

you left me and the kids

for the house on the hill

but soon you'll be gone

to find your next thrill
