SHARE THE SAME HEART
a blind date without light
born with eyes but no sight
from two men I could chose
my vision appeared by non-visible clues
his voice was tender, his words profound
he touched my soul with every sound
was not the first man but the other
i fell in love with his ailing brother
the frail one I loved was hanging on
his brother ironically was healthy and strong
as others dreamed he lived for each hour
his moments on earth were sweet never sour
he was grateful for life that filled every vein
and although he suffered he denied his pain
while he was desperate he gave me life
with only days remaining I became his wife
we made love at night while his brother slept
the silence we had were the secrets we kept
he took like a leech but knew how to give
until I met him there was no reason to live
the brothers were joined but light-years away
genetics the same but looks can betray

he lived off his brother he had no choice
a position of weakness he had no voice
two different souls who shared the same heart
they were not the same but never apart
the heart they shared belonged to the other
my mate survived by the heart of his brother
his brother resentful and tired of giving
hoping my lover would get tired of living
